We just received our copy of the Big Book of Packaging, which features an interview of Chris Fasan and I for the Macadamia Natural Oil packaging we designed. I’ve had my work featured featured in a few books now, but this is the biggest feature by far, and it’s pretty exciting to see it in print.
This is a project that I have been working on at Version-X for some time now, and it’s finally at a point where it’s ready to show. DaBecca Natural Foods does things the old fashioned way. They smoke their meats with real smoke, not liquid smoke, and they don’t cram them full of preservatives and artificial ingredients.
Navigating the labyrinthine waters of labeling requirements as set out by the USDA was a significant challenge, but we’re really happy with the results. The old-school butcher shop aesthetic really nails the ethos of DaBecca and their products will look great on store shelves. Much credit goes out to Steve Silvas, whom I designed the logo and packaging in conjunction with.
As the year winds to a close, The Dieline has put together a post covering their top 100 designs of 2010. In addition to being a nice roundup of packaging design, it also happens to include some work by yours truly. A big thanks to the folks at the Dieline for including the packaging for Macadamia, coming in at #83.
I’m happy to announce the launch of Generista, a small utility that I’ve developed that generates gibberish passwords. The idea is that instead of a password like “gxtr45ckYds”, Generista creates a password like “utordion53” which is infinitely easier to remember, since it’s pronounceable. The fact that it isn’t a word from the dictionary keeps it secure. Bookmark it. Use it.
Here’s a little preview of a small web utility that I’m creating. It was originally for 10k Apart, but there was no way to get the file size down.
